Introduction: This curriculum is designed to produce lower level human resources in the field of Ayurveda equipped with knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for this level of technicians so as to meet the demand of such technician in the country.

2.

Aim: The aim of the programme is designed to equip trainees with skills and principles/knowledge of Ayurveda to make the trainees competent in the application of these skills/principles/knowledge for the prevention and cure of human diseases/disorders as well as preservation/promotion of human health.

3.

Objectives: After completing this curricular program, the students will be able: 1. 2. 3. 4.

To be familiar with concept of Aayu, Ayurveda and its history and evolution. To be familiar with anatomy and physiology of human body. To assist & perform general examination of the human body. To be familiar with Dravyaguna-vigyana, its basic principles and identify common medicinal plants. 5. To be familiar with essential Ayurvedic as well as allopathic medicines available in health posts & sub-health posts. 6. To be familiar with Rasa-shastra, preparation and dispensing methods of common Ayurvedic formulations. 7. To be familiar with the basic concept of personal hygiene, promotion of human health and prevention of diseases. 8. To be familiar with diagnostic methods, general management of common diseases/ disorders and referral to appropriate centre. 9. To be familiar with the concept of health education and environmental health. 10. To be familiar with laboratory report of the patient. 11. To be familiar with the signs, symptoms and simple management of diseases related to Shalya and Shalakya-tantra. 12. To perform first aid procedures & assist senior practitioner in pre-surgical and postsurgical procedures. 13. To be familiar with reproductive health, gynecological disorders, antenatal and postnatal care, child health and common diseases of the children. 14. To assist in antenatal, postnatal care and other gynecological and obstetrical procedures. 15. To be familiar with health management system of Nepal. 16. To perform data collection, record keeping, making charts and filling the Ayu forms.

4.

Programme Description: This program provides skills and related technical knowledge necessary to be a competent Auxiliary Ayurvedic Health Worker (AAHW). There will be both demonstrations by instructors and opportunity for the trainees to perform skills/tasks necessary for the technician. Trainees will learn skills using typical tools/equipment/material and supplies necessary for the program. Trainees successfully completing the program will be able to assist for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of common diseases/health disorders through Ayurvedic approach. Trainees will be able to preserve and promote their health through the art of healthy living and advice the community for the same. Again this program provides the skills/knowledge necessary for the trainees to be self employed in the field of Ayurveda in the days to come. This program also includes On-The-Job-Training (OJT) in which the trainees are placed on the job under the supervision of the supervisors in the related hospital/health post/Institute. It aims at the trainees be familiar with and get experience of the world of real work and gain skills/knowledge that are new or not covered in the training institute.

Target Group: The target group for this program will be all the interested individuals of the country with academic qualification of SLC pass.

6.

Target Location: The target location of this program will be all over Nepal.

7.

Group Size: The group size of this program will be not more than 40.

8.

Entry Criteria: Individuals who meet the following criteria will be allowed to enter into this program: •

Should have passed SLC



Should pass entrance examination administered by CTEVT



Final selection will be made on the basis of merit list.



Candidates should submit the following documents at the time of application o SLC pass certificate o Character certificate

o Citizenship certificate (for the name, parents' name, age, date of birth and address verification purpose only) •

Special quota for different category of students will be as per the policy of CTEVT



Preference will be given to female, Dalit, Janajati, Conflict affected people and Disadvantaged Groups ( DAGs)

9.

Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction will be in English and/or Nepali language.

10.

Course Duration: This course will be completed within 12 months/52 weeks/1560 hours. In addition, 3 months/480 hours on-the-job assignment should also be completed for issuing certificate of successful completion of the course.

11.

Pattern of Attendance: The students should have 80% attendance in theory classes and 90% in practical/ performance to be eligible for internal assessments and final examinations.

Teacher and Student Ratio:  Overall ratio of teacher and student must be 1:10 (at the institution level).  Teacher and students ratio for theory class should be as per nature of classroom  Teacher and student ratio for practical should be 1:10  75 % of the teachers must be full-time.

13.

Instructor′′s Qualification  Bachelors′ Degree or equivalent in the related field  Good communicative ability  Experience in the related field.

Non-projected Media Materials (Display, Models, Photographs, Flip chart, Poster, Writing board etc.).  Projected Media Materials (Opaque projections, Overhead transparencies, Slides etc.).  Audio-Visual Materials (Audiotapes, Films, Slide-tape programs, Videodiscs, Videotapes etc.).  Computer-Based Instructional Materials (Computer-based training, Interactive video etc.)

Teaching Learning Methodologies: The methods of teaching for this curricular program will be a combination of several approaches. Such as Illustrated lecture, Group discussion, Demonstration, Simulation, Guided practice, Practical experiences, Fieldwork, Laboratory observation, Hospital visit, Report writing, Term paper presentation, Case analysis, Tutoring, Role-playing, Heuristic and other independent learning. 18.

Evaluation Details:

1. Continuous evaluation of the students' performance is to be done by the related instructor/ trainer to ensure the proficiency over each competency under each area of a subject specified in the curriculum. 2. Related technical knowledge learnt by students will be evaluated through written tests. 3. Students must score a minimum of 40% marks in theory test & 60% in practical test in all subjects. 4. There will be at least three internal assessments and one final examination in each subject. Moreover, the mode of an assessment and an examination will include both theory and practical or as per the nature of instruction as mentioned in the course structure. 5. Students should pass internal assessments both in theory and practical tests in all subjects. 6. The ratio between the theory and practical tests will be 20:80 in case of a practical nature subject. 7. Out of 100%, 50% weightage is allotted for the internal assessments and the remaining 50% is allotted for the final examination 8. The on-the-job training has to be evaluated keeping 300 as full marks. The evaluation of the performance of the student is to be carried out by the three agencies; the concerned institute, hospital/medical centre where the student worked and the CTEVT unless otherwise directed by office of the Controller of examinations /Technical Division of the CTEVT. The student has to score 60% or above for successful completion of the course.

Certificate Requirements: The council for technical education and vocational training will award certificate in “Technical School Leaving Certificate in Ayurveda” to those students who successfully complete the requirements as prescribed by the curriculum.

21.

Career Path: The graduate will be eligible for the position equivalent to Non-gazetted 2nd class/level 4 (technical) as Auxiliary Ayurvedic Health Worker or as prescribed by the Public Service Commission. The graduate is eligible to enlist with the Nepal Ayurveda Medical Council or for registration with Nepal Health Professional Council in the grade as mentioned in the concerned Council's Act. The graduate will also be eligible to study Certificate in Medical Science (Ayurveda and General Medicine).

Description: This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge of Dravyaguna-Vigyana. They will gain knowledge about basic concepts and principles of Dravyaguna-vigyana with special focus on identification, properties, actions and uses of medicinal plants; and also about essential medicines/drugs used in primary health care level.
